Thread Name: Obit: Joe Lynch - RIP 1 August 2001, age 76
Subject: Joe Lynch - RIP
Sad to relate that the great Irish comedian, actor and singer Joe Lynch died today August 1st 2001 age 76 in Alicante, Spain where he had been admitted to hospital. He passed away at 6pm. Growing up in Ireland, I and many others will remember his Sunday afternoon show on Irish Radio, "Living With Lynch." A singer of no mean accomplishments, his best known songs included "Cottage By The Lee" and "The Old Rustic Bridge." I remember seeing him playing to a packed house in the late-fifies in the Metropolitan, Edgeware Road, London, long since gone also alas. He progressed to television appearing in the sit-com "Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width" as well as in "Coronation Street." Lately he was a regular in the Irish series "Glenroe." He appeared in such films as "The Outsider" with Sterling Hayden. A gentleman of the old school, Joe who was a Corkman will be greatly missed by his many friends and fans. "Go ndeine Dia trocaire ar a anam." Farewell Joe, I will now listen to some of your recordings and "choirs of angels sing thee to thy rest." Tonight you are in the company of the greats, including Sir Harry and many others.
