Did I mention that the melody that got attached to the poem in the typewriter turns out to be that wonderful old sentimental favorite, "My Mammy"? Maybe in another thread--I have been known to start out with PFTMD and switch to "Mammy!"--and then quell the angry cries by pointing out that our image of a "Mammy" is actually an embodiment of the African Goddess of the River--for some I don't perform as much as I used to--
And I agree with you Spaw, there is an amazing tendency to take anything old and turn it into a up-tempo number, generally a march, though often enough, a Dixieland number -one can imagine that this will eventually happen to Puff- I can just imagine the way that it might sound, as played by the Lawrence Welk Orchestra (yes, they're still out there!) or perhaps even as an intro on the old Merv Griffin Show--
