an 'eejit' is just archaic pronouncation of 'idiot'. It was once 'with it' to pronounce such words with a 'j' sound: 'injun'(indian), 'inja'(India) and so on. As often happened the older pronouncation lingered on at the periphery of the English-speaking world.
