Bluebelle may have hit the nail on the head with her Southern pronunciation explanation. When I hear it spoken (and when I say it) it sounds like Munroe. She is also right about Campbell Mercer being a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. That show, the Cumberland Highlanders is the only show I can recall seeing where dogs wander around loose, sometimes settling at the perfomers feet! Just gives it an air of good ole down home style...I like it! If you ever watch the show look at the credits at the end, they will list the dog's names under the heading "K-9 Stunt Unit"!
