Child collected NO ballads or songs, merely published songs from other peoples' works. Of his sources, 25% of the texts came from books by Scott and Percy a further 15% from Ritson and Buchan. GUEST, yumyum, I do sing songs I learned from my parents generation, from friends and from records and tapes. I don't think professor Child did.
