Thank you Alan you silver tongued devil you.

Whittlebury Song and Ale is a tiny festival for unaccompanied singers held on a working farm near Silverstone racetrack. It is not an invite only as some think but it is strictly limited in numbers because of the limited space, insurance and the way they have had to organise things to accomodate licensing laws. viz It is now run as an annual club that only has one event each year. Those who wish to go don't "buy a ticket", they "apply for membership". Thus everyone who goes this year is a member of this year's club. Application forms are all sent out at the same time (early Spring) to those who've been before or expressed an interest in going. "Membership" is on a first come first served basis and in practice it is so popular that if you don't reply almost by return of post, there may not be any places left! Everyone is assigned chores, there are no booked performers and facilities are very basic - but there are proper loos, and the singing in the barn is amazing!
