Oddly, last night at the club, Dave brought that very book in. It's a very compelling argument, with John Warner's name all over it. I guess that's the writer's perogative: to change a song as s/he sees fit. And that's why we like live music - 'cos it changes. Maybe he had the same trouble as I do of trying to get "government" to scan.(Change of subject)I remember sleeve notes for a Paul Simon album which had early drafts of "I'd rather be a hammer than a nail" and some of the discarded ideas were cringeworthy in the extreme. Not quite "I'd rather be a foot than a smelly sock", but close.
