Some planes went to even wilder destinations than Newfoundland. A bunch were apparently sent to Labrador (Happy Valley/Goose Bay, where there's a large disused airstrip due to the American base being closed.)

And there was one 7(4?)7 which ended up landing in Whitehorse, Yukon, under fighter escort--they weren't sure if it had been hijacked but it actually had a fuel shortage emergency. And under the circumstances with all the re-routing in the air it's extremely fortunate none of the planes had to glide in.
