One Year at a Folk-Legacy Festival, I was in a favorite songs workshop. It didn't specify Favorite FOLK songs, and I was among friends, so just because it IS one of my favorite songs, I did Searchin' by the Coasters, and several people joined in.

Truth is, I didn't grow up in a log cabin, and most folks didn't pick cotton that I know. I love traditional music, and have enough favorites to sing all night. But, the occassion was a free-wheeling one, with good friends in the workshop and Searchin' seemed just right. If there had only been a broken token involved, I might have passed it off as traditional. I love traditional folk music, but it's just one of my loves. I love jazz, and rhythm and blues and some country music and gospel. Usually I check them at the door..
