I'm a sucker for fancy dress parties, and themes are always fun. One Christmas I threw one where everyone had to come as a character from a carol.
There were plenty of shepherds and wise men, but we also had a donkey and Wenceslas's page - in a tabard made from a blow-up of the front page of the Sun!
If I remember rightly the donkey - a rather plummy antiques dealer - hit the hot punch like there was no tomorrow and insisted on giving the Virgin Mary a ride around the house braying loudly, chased by assorted angels and saints singing vry off-key.
