I built a long bridge in my waking dream
Every night for a year, one small stick at a time.
And when it was done slowly I walked across
Thinking of all I was leaving behind.
From the other side I glanced back just once
And thought of my wife, my job and my child.
But the hills were azure and my eyes were aglow
And the now distant past seemed nothing but strife.
I walked in my dream until time lost its charm
And I knew I had shed all my ego and ken.
I walked in my mind until death stopped my gait
And I found I was back where I'd started, again.
