Thread Name: Will there be singing in your house?
Subject: RE: Will there be singing in your house?
Since I live alone in an apartment, I'm sure I'll be singing to myself (as usual)! If I go to my brother's for Christmas, as I often do, he will be playing his instrumental CD's as background music but the family doesn't gather 'round to sing. We did a bit of that in my youth, usually with my mother playing piano, but not as a regular event. Alas, my mother and the piano are both gone. Nowadays, even if I took my guitar along and tried to initiate some singing, I doubt that I could work up much enthusiasm for it.

Fortunately, I'll be attending a couple of open houses Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, hosted by musician friends, where singing will be welcomed and encouraged. There's also a Wassail party coming up!

To answer Jerry's question, I would love to see carollers coming down the street and singing on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately they'd probably be drowned out by the sound of the fire engine: it's a Christmas Eve tradition for the local fire departments to dress one of their guys as Santa, perch him on top of a firetruck, and drive through the streets blaring the siren as Santa waves to anyone and everyone. Personally, I find the noise (if I'm home) and the resultant snarled traffic (if I'm out) to be extremely annoying, and would much prefer carollers, no matter what or how well they sing!
