Just watch how threads evolve here at the Cat and you should be able to see why peace is so elusive. I heard somewhere that the Japanese were considering buying all of the nuclear weapons in the world just to get rid of them (apparently at some point they were wealthy enough to do this). I certainly liked the idea. And money is going to be a major player in this thing. I firmly believe the ONLY way to real peace is to make it more profitable than war.
