Note on sampling CD's

I remember going to some Wal-Mart down south on my way to Mardi Gras in 2000.

They had a neat toy in that if you wanted to listen to clips of cd's they sold, you took the cd, and scanned the cd into a machine just above the music rack. It would then play 30-45 sec samples of the music on the cd.

One hell of an excellent idea. Too bad thats not really more common. Would save me alot of money sometimes. (as I often look for non-mainstream folk, blues, barbershop, etc.)
I can see the logistical nightmare for a big record store though. You'd pretty much need one person working always, making samples of each new album to come into the store. Major pain in the ass.
