Thread Name: Lyr/Tune/Chords Req: Road to Malinmore
Subject: Lyr Add: THE ROAD TO MALINMORE
THE ROAD TO MALINMORE

On the road to Malinmore you can hear the ocean roar,
I heard the skylarks sing their happy song,
It was in the month of June and the heather was in bloom,
I met a "cailin" as she walked along. [colleen - girl]
Her face was fair and handsome and her hair was neatly tied,
In golden coloured ribbons that she wore,
For she stole my heart away on that grand new summer's day,
And I met her on the road to Malinmore

CHORUS: On the road to Malinmore you can hear the ocean roar,
And I met her on the road to Malinmore.

Sure I've travelled Donegal through her glens and mountains tall,
And many there's a cailin I have seen,
But there's none that can compare with the cailin I met there,
And I knew in all the world she was a queen.
So I went to see her parents to ask them for her hand,
And if I could make her mine for evermore,
So if you're in Donegal you'll be welcome if you call,
To that cottage on the road to Malinmore. CHORUS

Transcribed from the Bridie Gallagher album "Greatest Hits Vol One", Sharpe Music, 3 Irish Street, Dungannon, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Malinmore is on the western coast of Co Donegal, a couple of miles southwest of Glencolumbkille. The name is Irish, "malainn mhor", meaning "large brow [of a hill] or brae". The melody is very beautiful, sorry I don't have the means to post it.
