Any Joni Mitchell fan will be aware that her voice has dropped at least an octave between her first album and the "Turbulent Indigo" CD. My feeling is that this is a side effect of the aging process (sagging?) and is to be expected from any singer who records over several decades. Of course, drinking and smoking would contribute.
