I knew that my X2B was going to propose, what surprised me was the ring. We were going to get married after I finished my PhD, but before that we had a huge (long-overdue) fight and I threw the ring back. (We didn't split up, just got unengaged.) Years later I got very drunk at a party and told him I'd like to get married after all. After three days ("I wanted to make sure you were sober") I was asked if I still meant it, and we were married about a year later. GREAT wedding. Terrible marriage.
