SRS, thank God you are in the minority in this country.

For those of you who want socialized medicine, why in the world don't you move to a country that offers it? Do you know of one, however, that is not in trouble? That offers the care you want, when you want it?

Neither Medicare or Medicaid in the U. S. was designed to cover all medical costs. It would be cost prohibitive to do so. Neither was Social Security designed to cover the full retirement cost for someone who wants to retire, for the same reason.
