Freebooter McPherson had the rope around his neck when the reprieve "cam ow'r the Brig o' Banff" to gi'e the mannie his freedom---but the rotten buggers set "the clock a quarter afore" and hanged him before the document could be served. You may still see what is purported to be his broken fiddle on display in the wee museum in Newtonmore.
