Green Man's post leads me to ponder whether Shinbone Alley became a generic term for any alley where sailors were often known to have been attacked by crimps, thereby accounting for so many Shinbone Alleys.

McGrath - Funny you should mention Diagon Alley. Yesterday this owl flew into my office and dropped a letter instructing me to go there and buy some items for school. Very strange, but if I can find out where Diagon Alley is, I'll check it out.
