As has already been said, there is a wide variety of music out there...saying "English Folk Music" is about like saying "American Folk Music". You said that your friend liked the Doonan Family Band? I'm not really familiar with that group, but perhaps someone who is could suggest some similar groups. I'd recommend the John Redburn Group, myself.
