Jon, I did indeed "burn" a CD in the microwave.The time has to be real short. I've got an older one with mechanical timers so I couldn't be sure of an exact time but the 5 seconds called for should be about right. I think mine was about 10 seconds.You get blue flashing at first then a silver white. It looks like the blue is what you want.After my last post I stuck the same CD back in and only got the silver-white with smoke ths time.When I pulled it out,instead of having more arc paths it seems there were more holes.Also, since I didn't have a paper cup I used a shot glass to support the CD.
Another trick to try is to take a pint beer glass filled with water,put a light bulb in it base down, and microwave it.The bulb will light up without harming the microwave.
Now to try the plasmoid experiment.
