Subject: RE: BS: Origin of Mudcat Nicknames
I originally had an account at Mudcat under my own name, but then stayed away for a long time and lost not only my cookie but my passwords. With the acrimony that sometimes breaks out I decided I didn't want to be quite so "out there" with my own name. So I started over and decided to borrow a moniker of my grandfather's. He wrote a column called "The Sage of the Stilly" (Stillaguamish River).

Email 'bots' these days harvest addresses for spam, and there are other programs that cobble together initials and names and internet provider names in an attempt to hit on active email accounts. By using a description rather than a name and initial, I avoid the later form of programs. Knock on wood, but my email account with this name hasn't been spammed so far.
