If using a remote battery holder/connector of some sort, it would have a lead to connect to the circuit board battery terminals. Presumably, this connection could be undisturbed indefinitely. I would protect it against possible corrosion--which would be a MAJOR pain to rectify--by coating the terminals with grease before snapping the connector to the board. Appropriate greases would be white lithium, silicone, or dielectric.
