Be fair Sorcha - not "as many times as possible as quickly as possible", rather "as often as required, when required". The traditional formula for the aristos is supposed to be "an heir and a spare" - in this case they decided two extra spares might be handy. Not a particularly large family.

I still can't see why there should be any more animus towards them than against any other lottery winning family. They carry out the rather strange function that it's been decided they should carry on, as part of the price of the winning lottery ticket.

I suppose they could change the system and have the thing done as a conventional lottery. But I don't think that being Queen would be the first prize - too many hassles compared with just getting the money and buggering off.
