The "Euphemisms and asterisks" thread highlights a lot of the differences between the US and UK use of the English language. Most of them are downright funny, once the initial confusion has been sorted.The first time I was over in the States, I was in a business meeting in NYC. After about three hours, someone suggested a break and I said "thank god for that, I'm dying for a fag".
I have never lived it down. Any others?
