Attempt at a serious point

I wonder if religion/politics has any influence?
During the 18th Century (and to some extent the 19th C), William was the name associated most with Potestantism and the protestant succession (thanks to William of Orange/William III and to William Augustas Duke of Cumberland[1]), and, I believe this may have had a hand in some of its popularity.
