"Jerusalem"is certainly a call for simpler more majestic time, as the pre-raph's saw it, when chivalry and ecology were the prime movers. The chartists actually drew up what was to become the basis for socialist thought. They were formed to combat the unfair pay and conditions (especially from the leicestershire weavers) They drew up a charter of twelve basic rules for men(women still didn't figure very largely in there thoughts) that included the right to one man one vote. They were eventually hounded out of existance, but they paved the way for the Tolpuddle Martyrs and the socialist movement as a whole. There you go.
