I dont think even the most diehard folkies ever disapproved of people singing non-folksongs. They only ever applied their efforts to keeping the repertoire in folk clubs vaguely folk-orientated. Not very odd or fascistic really. There's a Pigeon Fanciers Club meets near here: while they might not mind if I took round my bird-of-paradise occasionally, I doubt if they'd want to be taken over completely.
