I know it was reported in the South London Press, but my friend would like to check out any other references to compare with what he was told. My sister used to explore the tunnels which do exist under Dover Castle, which at the time had openings accessible to the public. These are now closed for safety. Pete M, did you ever go down there? I missed out on that.
