I remember when I was stationed in Key West, (1982) Jimmy Buffett did some PSAs (Public Service Announcements), asking folks to slow down their boats and watch out for Manatees.

About 2 years ago, I was on a business trip to Sea World in Orlando. I work for the Biological Resources Divison of the US Geological Survey, and we got a behind the scenes tour. We were there just as a Manatee that had been struck by a propeller was brought in. They rehabilitate them and release them back into the wild.

People just don't need big honkin' power boats, that's all there is to it...
