We had WLS....in Chicago 50,000 watts of power coming out of the windy city and mowing down a swath from just outside Indianapolis clear up to Lake of the Woods, Ontario on good nites. I suggest the Mudcat's Blue Plate Special be mixed with the sound of rattled potato chip bags in the background to get that authentic AM radio sound. I'm fairly certain that static had it's effect on all of us at an early age as we are mostly gettin' pretty old and grew up with it and managed to keep our interest in at least one thing for most of our lives. '57 rusted out buick, speaker in the middle of the dash, am radio dial glowin' in the dark and Stevie Wonder playin' "Fingertips" and Wilson Pickett hollerin' about the Land of a Thousand Dances.
