The auction is another way of donating that may be worth considering. It is perhaps wrong to talk money but this was how the last item I put in worked out. My maximum donation to Mudcat would have been £10. I put a sterling silver pendant in the auction and offered a choice of gemstone. OK, I had to shop for the bits and set the stone in the fitting but my outlay ended up around £6 plus what ended up as being air mail to the US (from the UK) - not very expensive for such a light item.
The item itself raised $26 which I think works out as more than my would be £10 straight donation and I think the "winner" ended up with something they like.
I'm not saying that all new items would go that way but I think items that involve a little bit of personal input are worth at try and perhaps more satisfying all round than a straight donation.
Just a thought,
Jon
