MBW, I can't speak for the tax situation in the UK but here in Iowa, like most U.S. states, sales taxes are not collected automatically on out-of-state sales. We are required by law to go to the tax office and pay the state sales tax on any such purchases. As you might imagine, the state tax office has had to rent extra space and hire more workers just to handle the traffic... not. <g>
