According to Stewart & Keesing's "Australian Bush Ballads," the poem that starts "Oh! don't you remember Black Alice, Sam Holt" is "A Ballad of Queensland" by G. H. Gibson (pen name "Ironbark"). Iam Mudie, in "Favourite Australian Poems" agrees with this.
