St Georges Flag has more associations with the Church of England than with the right wing nuts, who for the most part have tended anyway to prefer the Union Jack.
Looking at the flood of English flags fluttering everywhere this week I found myself thanking God that it hasn't been Union Jacks everywhere. The St George's Flag is a simple and essentially modest flag. The Union Jack isn't. (Yeah, and I know officially it's "Union Flag" not "Union Jack", but Union Jack is what people call it, and that's the determining factor in such things, in my view.)
