Subject: RE: Why are dogs called Blue?
Bluetick hounds are considered good for coon but I think Redbones are more reliable, they tend to not get lost as easy. Coon are also hunted with Black and Tans.

Blue heelers are probably the best cattle dog around and smart!

Ol' Yaller was a yellow hound of no particular parentage as I recall. I have a couple of friends who hunt coon and use a Redbone and a Black and Tan.

Bud Short, over in Augusta, Missouri hunts coon with beagles. Personally I don't like the sound Beagles make. Blue Ticks have a 'sweet' sound. Bud adds to the general cacophany by calling his dogs with a horn made from an African Eland. He used to work as a janitor in the school system and found the horn in the trash one day. The horn sounds more sweetly than those dang beagles!

My ladyfriend makes great roast coon, with potatoes and carrots and onions all roast together. Coon tastes sorta like beef but a little more greasy.
