Thread Name: Lyr Req: That First Love of Mine (Montana Slim)
Subject: That First Love of Mine: Montana Slim?
I've been thinking of an old song that my 15-year-old brother and I at 13 often sang together with great feeling when we were so homesick for Oregon after having moved with our family to Virginia.

We moved in 1949 so this song was around before then.

The first verse goes: (I may have the lines slightly mixed)

Sweetheart, I'm dreaming still of our childhood days
Life seemed so full of joy, sorrows far away
But when we said goodbye it just broke my heart
You're my first and only love; why did we ever part

My question is who recorded it that early? I find that a lot of different people recorded it, (assuming it's the same song) but some were done much later than the 40s.

Could it have been Montana Slim (Wilf Carter)? According to the 'net, he recorded it- but I can't find a RealAudio version. I know I'd remember the voice.
