Ewan MacColl always said HE did - it was one of his answers to people who questioned why his lifestyle often seemed somewhat distant from the more working class one he wrote songs about. In the 60s/70s he insisted that he needed to buy a new, reasonably up-market car every year (it was a Citroen DS for several years).
