From Staunton, you could also head south to Lexington -- a well preserved 19th century town that served as the setting for the movie Somersby. The Lime Kiln Theater, on the outskirts of town, will be presenting "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)" while you're in the area. Worth seeing if you are in the mood for a good laugh at the Bard's expense. For more serious Bard, Staunton is home base for Shenandoah Shakespeare and the newly constructed Blackfriars Theater reconstruction. The town is also home to folk musician Bill Wellington, but I don't know if he will be around when you are there. Back in Northern Virginia, there are bluegrass (and old time, but much more b than o-t) jams in Arlington on afternoons of Aug. 11 and 25 in Lyon Park sponsored by Capitol Area bluegrass and OT Music Association (http://www.homestead.com/caboma/files/default.html). And come prepared for hot weather -- we're down in the 80s F. today, but last few weeks have been more generally well up into the 90s.
