My neighbor is quite adamant that there IS a difference between a dwarf & a midget! He says a midget has normal body proportions, and a dwarf is usually deformed in some manner, or out of proportion, often very small with a large head. He will correct anyone in a BIG way (just had to get in the pun, huh) who tries to say otherwise. I did not think of it before he told me. He also told me that if I were a mere 1/4 inch shorter I could be a member of dwarfs international, and 3/4 inches shorter, I could be a member of the US dwarfs organization! I'm not sure why, but I thought that was interesting. He also says that when a new member of "little peoples' community" find out that there is a new little person born, they go visit the family, and then as the child gets older, they stay friends so that they can assist with the horrible prejudice & dealing with the difficulties of being small in a big world.
