Hugh, I don't know about the "gutter" characterization, but if one's mind is on a certain wavelength, nearly everything anyone says can be viewed as "double entendre."

E.g.,
"Group fun in Balboa Park.  Sweet tunes to play.  Instruments from huge to teeny.  Get a groove on with old friends and make new ones there on the grass.  Hot dogs and buns, tuna fish sandwiches, finger food, etc."
