The Soviet system cured a lot of people of their socialist soul... :-) But...no economic or social system works well when combined with a dehumanized, authoritarian, repressive, one-party dictatorship, and a ruthless military machine. Try capitalism under those same general conditions and see how much you like it, assuming you're not one of the few at the top.
