A friend used to sing this song but I got confused because the version done by Ossian on their album The Carrying Stream has different lyrics for the last two verses. From what I can make out the first line of the second to the last verse is:

And the government says we're to blame


and the last verse starts out like this:

And though our times are all this hard
Aye and hunger.....
