While Gordon Bok does a great deal of recently composed music, he also plays traditional music. Not only on the cello but also on the cellamba, which I think he may have inventer: a cello body with the fingerboard of a viola da gamba. Not that I pretend to know the difference, except that I know the gamba fingerboard is fretted. Janet Peterson of the Washington State-based group Motherlode also plays cello. She's occasionally been known to turn it sideways and use one of those huge Gibson display picks...
