Subject: RE: Help: Melodeon teachers near Milton Keynes UK?
I believe Roger Watson is now arts coordinator for the area around Bracknell and plays at Bracknell folk club most weeks, lucky old them, some folkies get all the luck. Getting back to the question, Paul Scourfield who has appeared at Bedford folk club and lives in Hitchin started to give lessons a few months ago. You could book lessons with Barry Goodman at the Greenbank Music Village in Luton. Those two would make sure you started properly and don't pick up too many bad habits. Nearer to MK ? the only person I can think of contacting is Andy Malleson who's a melodian player and runs a session at Eversholt most Sunday evenings, see the list in the Unicorn. My advice before you start having lessons is to lift 5lb weights with your right hand little finger and have extra fingers grafted onto that hand. All the good players seem to have a right hand span of about a foot and at least six fingers. Another good tip is never leave your melodian unattended, particulaly at this time of year, dry wood makes good bar-b-que lighting material, melodian playing is not as easy as it might at first appear. Good luck Salty reel
