This is Jenn, called "herself" by Art (what airs!). I don't get to use the computer much, but I have really enjoyed reading this thread (from the get-go). On the American side, how about "hangtown fry"? And we ate a lot of slumgullion when we were younger and poorer. And there was Finnan Haddie--some kind of smoked fish, not easy to find here--it was poached and eaten absolutely drowned in melted butter--yumm.
