Moreover, Paul Brown performed the song "as it probably sounded when Dan Kelley first put Dr. Brewster Higley's poem 'My Western Home' to music." According to Meade et al.'s Country Music Resources (p. 395), Dalhart's recording ("A Home On The Range," rec. 04/02/1927) is the earliest, and resembles the original version.
