Thread Name: RIP: The Hase session dies
Subject: RE: RIP: The Hase session dies
Smallpiper-this is what happened=At about 8.55PM on Tuesday, myself and Mandolin Malcolm walked into The Hase, as we were approaching the bar a middle aged lady sat next to the bar said "She has told them not to come here anymore" obviously "she" being the landlady, I was suprised to hear this as I thought she welcomed the session on her premises , providing a seperate area, supplying food etc, so I asked why, she said and I quote "Well the last time they came, it was a bloody dirge, and it was driving people away" I then asked the landlady what was going on. She told me that last week, nobody informed her that the session had changed dates, so she made some food as usual, and it got wasted, I did not realise, but at that point Bill Sables was stood behind us, and heard our discussion with the landlady, I then asked the landlady, if she knew where the session had moved to if at all, she answered in an abrubt manner, something along the lines of "how the hell should I know?", At this point Bill Sables reminded us that there is a good session at The Sloop, and suggested that we go there, this we did and had an exellent time, we felt very welcome and were invited by both Dave9Oakely) and Greg9Skipjack8) if we would like to sing/play a tune, I refused as I am a crap singer and only a beginner on my mandolin, but Mandolin Malcom said he will sing something next time he goes.

A few things that puzzle me Re The Hase =
1."The last time they came it was a bloody dirge", I was at the last Hase session, it was the time I lent my guitar to Pete Deen, it was a lively session and certainly no dirge.
2."The music is driving people away" Not True! As I was off-line the las few weeks, I did not know the session was postponed, so I have been to The Hase for the last 3 weeks ,I noticed that if anything, the pub is busier when the session is on, the strangers referred to above were NOT Mandolin Malcom and myself, we went into the pub realised there was no session and went straight to Barton that night.
4."food for the musicians was wasted"! The sessions start at 9PM and had recently been starting at 8.30 PM, and the food is served at 10.PM, if she saw no musicians then why did she prepare food? It does not take over an hour to make a few sandwiches! And if the food was already prepared for whatever reason, why did she not give it to the other pub regulars, if there were any?
I could have raised any of these points with the landlady at the time, but I felt little point, if I feel unwelcome somewhere, I would prefer to go somewhere else anyway, there is little point arguing, there are plenty of good pubs about.john
PS. I was only joking about Gordon, I have seen him since, and he tried to contact me Re The Hase, but did not have my number, and he would have let me in for free at Whitby, but the boss was there, he bought me a pint anyway!
