I've found them to be work colleagues who are a grade or two above mine (lowest of the low, only filing clerks are considered worse than my job, which actually ranks below toilet cleaner....), and who want me to do a job for them that they are perfectly capable of doing, but consider beneath them.

Trying to pin unfriendliness down to a particular race/species/gender is IMO like trying to put a jelly fish in a string bag..... it's not only impossible, but fairly cruel and unnecessary.
